Frequently Asked Questions – FAQ

When you’re toying with the idea of hiring a photographer, the same questions come up again and again. Here is a collection of the questions I’m asked most often. If anything else remains unanswered, I’m happy to clarify it in a personal conversation or by email.

Q: How many images do I get?

For event assignments you generally receive all the successful photos (roughly half-day: 80–120, full-day: 200–300 edited images), and for architecture assignments around 10 to 25. These have been post-processed but do not include elaborate beauty retouching. For a multi-hour event this can easily amount to several hundred photos. You can find examples of my work here.

Q: When will the photos be delivered?

My usual turnaround time is 3 working days. Of course, delivery immediately after the event (e.g. for fast press coverage) is also possible for a surcharge.

Q: What resolution will the delivered images have?

I work with full-frame cameras that deliver the following resolutions: Nikon Z6iii / Z6ii with 24MP and Nikon D850 with 46MP. The maximum resolution is delivered - and special output formats can be produced by arrangement (e.g. optimised for web, print or collages for printing at A0).

Q: Who selects the images?

For event assignments I make a selection. For architecture and portrait assignments a shortlist is created together with the client, which I then edit further in Photoshop if necessary.

Q: How heavily are the images edited?

That depends very much on the subject and the assignment. In general I edit rather conservatively and my images have a natural look. In special cases, such as my contribution to the group exhibition “Die Qual der Wahl”, it can, however, take 60 to 70 working hours for a single image.

Q: In what format do I get the images?

All photos are delivered in JPG format.

Q: How do I get the images - how are they delivered?

All images are made available via my website http://galleries.seirer-photography.com/. For commissioned work the photos are stored under a non-public, password-protected URL. Using a “DOWNLOAD ALL” button, all images can be conveniently downloaded (an archive containing all photos is created and its link is sent by email). The gallery area is also designed - for a surcharge - for direct sharing with guests etc. (e.g. the URL can be emailed directly to event guests).

Q: What may I use the images for?

Usage is agreed on an assignment-by-assignment basis.

Q: “Uncle Karl” also takes good photos with his new camera - why should we hire you?

Feel free to ask Uncle Karl to take your portraits or photograph your event ;-) Seriously though: of course it’s entirely possible that Uncle Karl also takes good photos. Nevertheless, there are a few differences worth keeping in mind:

  • I take several thousand images per week

  • I can handle any (lighting) situation, change my settings quickly and own the necessary lighting equipment

  • I’m not a guest at events and I don’t take breaks to rest in between

  • I photograph everyone, not just the people I know or like

  • I own several professional camera bodies and professional lenses and am therefore prepared for the most varied situations

  • I bring everything in at least duplicate (several cameras, lenses, batteries, memory cards, flashes, etc.)

  • I’m a Nikon Professional Services member and my equipment is regularly cleaned, adjusted and calibrated

  • I edit my photos with Lightroom and Photoshop and know the necessary steps to produce, for example, high-quality outputs for large-format printing on aluminium Dibond or museum-quality framing

Q: Do you come alone or with an assistant?

That depends on the assignment. I handle most of my assignments alone. When needed I bring an assistant or a second photographer (for example when photos are to be printed and handed out on site, or when a full studio setup is to be built on location).

Q: Do you charge for travel time?

I live and work in Vienna - so all assignments in Vienna up to and including 30 km of travel one way are included. For greater distances I charge the current mileage rate.

Q: What equipment do you use?

I work with Nikon cameras (Z6iii, Z6ii, D850) and fast lenses (24-70/2.8, 70-200/2.8, various prime lenses, a 24 mm tilt-shift lens for architecture photography, a 105 mm macro lens for product photography). In addition I work with system flashes from Nikon and Yongnuo, a mobile flash system and everything Peak Design has ever produced.

Q: Can the cost of a shoot be shared?

If other parties involved in a shoot (e.g. architects, general contractors, companies from the individual trades, etc.) are also interested in licensing my photos, a shared price for everyone is sensible and possible.

Q: Do you offer services other than photography?

Yes. I offer additional services such as image editing, retouching, optimal preparation of my photos for existing websites, optimal use for social media and more.

In addition I offer videos for social media.

Q: Where are you located? Can you come to me?

Vienna. Yes. I frequently work with clients from Vienna or international companies, but I take on projects from all over the world - especially in various styles such as architecture, image/branding, events or construction projects.
